Photo Scanning Troubleshooting Tidbits

I'm beginning this section of my website because there is a wealth of information that flows through the 3D Scanners User Group on Facebook and much of it simply gets buried quickly in that constant stream.  I will likely convert this information into a searchable type of blog.

Image Sequences Don't Align

Q: When doing turntables, I flip my model over and scan both sides but my sides don't align in Agisoft.  I only get one side.  What's wrong?
A: You have to scan cross axis, across sharp corners and edges.

Texture Misaligned in ZBrush

Q: Do you have to flip your textures on their Y-axis in order to get them to align correctly in ZBrush?
A: Yes you do.  If your texture was generated in Agisoft and you are bringing it back to ZBrush you need to flip it.  You can do that in ZBrush or if you are taking a trip through Photoshop first you can do it there.

UV Seams Visible

Q: I created my custom UV seems and generated my texture in Agisoft.  I put the texture on the model and rendered.  Ugh, why can I see the seems?
A: From what I remember this was tied to the texture format that you export your texture in (i.e.-PNG or JPG a lossey format).  Try to export in TIFF.  You can also use a free Photoshop plugin from Flaming Pear called Solidify B to generate an intelligent fill effect on your texture.  This will also solve the fringing in the UV seems.  Download the free Photoshop plugin from Flaming Pear here.
