Colorado has some fantastic rock and stone subjects.  In hopes that I can eventually convert these scans into some great ZBrush brushes I have begun to scan these great local rock and stone surface textures.  If you have the time please feel free to jump in and help me convert these over to ZBrush brushes.

Rock Texture One

This is the first of several interesting rock textures that I've scanned up while on hikes around the Denver area.  This came from a hike near Castle Rock.  This rock subject has a gritty gray appearance and shows interesting erosion.  It's not a large section, perhaps about 3-6 feet, but I hope it is useful.

Rock Texture Two

This rock texture looks almost like vertical dirt but it IS a deeply pitted rock texture surface.  Enjoy!

Rock Texture Three

Here is the third texture scan and a rather fun one because it is of the red rocks that we have here in Colorado.  And it should come as no surprise that this subject is from the aptly named Red Rocks Park.

Rocky Cliff Face

Here was a rocky cliff face I scanned on the drive up Look Out Mountain just up the road.  It wasn't able to recover some of the foliage but it still is a lovely cliff face none the less.  I climbed up and stood in that little perch halfway up so I could get additional photos from a higher angle.  This is the kind of subject that makes me wish I had a camera on a pole.  At any rate it was done a while back and I forget to get it up for everyone.  So here it is now.

Wow, very nice! Are bump/displacement maps included with the base texture for this?

Every scan I build has a displacement, normal and texture map at 8k. And then a base mesh. :) Enjoy!

Oh, and if you need it the High Poly model is available in the ZBrush file.

Mark,

It is my understanding that sand and dunes are very difficult subjects but doable. I was just talking to James Candy about doing some sand subjects because he is in Florida.

We'll see, maybe I can do some experiments on a turntable since I have a bag of sand laying around at home.
